So I'm sitting here trudging through my daily Internet news crawl and holly smoke there has been some action recently on the companies picking up anime series licensing deals that actually interests me. And damn about freaking time some great shows that I liked are getting licensed for the states but how much and exactly what media format they'll show up as is still not known.
The best news that I read about is that Aniplex pickup up Bakemonogatari and brought back Kara no Kyoukai and Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai for a regular release. KnK is the 7 movie series that I loved but there was no way I couple cough up the dough needed for the BD release (clocked in at $500+ dollars for the set) and Oreimo was the same way with it's BD limited edition release as well. So hopefully this time around Aniplex wont try to rape us even more at the checkout for these titles as well. Oh and by the way Oreimo is also getting a second season as well.
At VIZ, popular with Shonen titles, they have picked up the rights for the Berserk movie trilogy which seems a bit odd as those movies are far more gory than their regular stuff. The first movie will be released this fall but it doesn't say how so it may be Direct to Video or might hit the silver screen first. That would be interesting but I'm sure parents would have a cow about it. And while I don't care about it at all I'm sure there are plenty of folks out there who would also like to know that VIZ also picked up the rights to the final anime series for Inuyasha: The final Act.
Oh course you can't leave FUNimation out of this fun licensing excitement. They've been busy as well and have picked up some cool stuff. On the DVD/BD side of things we've got Shangri-la & Sankarea (which is new this season and I haven't seen yet) and then we also have Mirai Nikki as well. On the streaming only side of things there is a bunch of cool stuff. Namely the new Lupin the III series as well as the new Is this a Zombie series too. You can read all about it on their blog here -- Woot!
I can't freaking wait to see all this stuff hitting the shelves and I'm mostly interested in picking up the DVD set of KnK if it's not outrageously priced and the same with Bakemonogatari.
